NBA season
1968–69 NBA
Boston Celtics won the 1969 NBA title, beating the Los Angeles Lakers in the Finals.
The season in brief
Bill Russell's final season was also his eleventh championship. Playing and coaching at the same time, he led an aging Boston roster through the playoffs and into a Finals rematch with the Los Angeles Lakers, who now had Wilt Chamberlain alongside Jerry West and Elgin Baylor. Boston won Game 7 in Los Angeles. West was named the first-ever Finals MVP despite losing, still the only player from a defeated team to win it. Rookie Wes Unseld won both Rookie of the Year and MVP for Baltimore.
